About the test and your result
Is this a diagnosis? No. The Mindset Test is an educational self-reflection tool, not a clinical, diagnostic, or screening instrument. See the methodology page for the full validation status.
Who can take it? Anyone curious about their own beliefs about learning and ability. It is written in a general adult reading register; teachers often use it with older adolescents. See the For educators page for age guidance.
Can children take it? The items assume the reading level and self-awareness of a mid-to-late teenager or adult. Younger children can complete it with adult support, but the result should be treated as a discussion prompt, not a measurement. See the For educators page.
What does my result mean? Your overall score is a position on a 1–6 spectrum plus separate subscores for intelligence and talent — higher leans growth, lower leans fixed. It is a snapshot of what you reported today, not a label. Read the interpretation guide for detail.
Can mindset change? Yes. Implicit theories are beliefs, not fixed traits, and they can shift with experience, reflection, and good feedback. Small shifts between retakes are normal.
How often can I retake it? As often as you like. A useful cadence is every few weeks after actively trying to notice fixed vs. growth reactions in daily life; retaking multiple times in a single day mostly measures test familiarity.
Validity and how the test was built
Is the test validated? No. The test is research-informed but has not been independently psychometrically validated, and we never describe it as a "validated test". It should not be used for hiring, admissions, grading, or clinical judgement. See the methodology page for the full validation status.
Was AI used to build it? Parts of the website text and translations were drafted with the help of large-language-model tools and then reviewed by a human. The 16 test items themselves were adapted from published implicit-theories research, not generated by an AI. See the About page.
Can employers use results? No. The test must never be used for hiring, selection, promotion, admissions, grading, or ranking. It is not designed or validated for those purposes and using it that way would be a misuse.
Privacy and data
Are answers stored? Individual answers to the public test are kept in your own browser only. Aggregated, anonymous numbers (such as a global completion counter and Classroom Mode aggregates) are stored on our servers with no identifier attached. The privacy policy lists every category.
Do I need an account? No. You can take the test, see your result, and share it without signing up.
Classroom Mode
How does Classroom Mode work? A teacher creates a session and shares a short join code. Students take the same test in their browser with no name or account. The teacher only sees aggregated, anonymous patterns; individual answers are never shown. Full step-by-step guide on the classroom-guide page.
Can teachers see individual answers? No. Teachers only see aggregated distributions and per-item patterns, and only after a minimum of three participants have completed the test. Individual scores and identities are not collected.
Errors, feedback and languages
How do I report an error? Email the address listed on the contact page. We prioritise corrections over new content, acknowledge within a few working days, and update the relevant page's "Last updated" date when a substantive change is made.
Which languages are supported? English, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, German, French, Japanese, Turkish, and Arabic. Arabic is rendered right-to-left. Results are not directly comparable across languages.
